A Little Snow Doesn’t Scare Us
Even when neighboring airports are forced to close their runways, Bangor International Airport is open. Our longstanding Joint Use Agreement with the Maine Air National Guard means that our runways are ready rain or shine – or snow. Our Snow Team holds national competition titles and BGR’s dedicated crew is trained to keep aircraft moving even when the snow is falling.
In 2019, BGR added a Global ER-2875 de-icer specifically designed for larger aircraft such as the Airbus A-380, Antonov An-225, C5, and C17 military airplanes and similarly large cargo planes. The ER-2875 has the longest side reach and highest cab/nozzle height of any mobile de-icer in the world, bringing the operator’s eye level as high as 78 feet.
If You Can Fly It, We Can Handle It
Some airports might tell you they can handle your aircraft, but at BGR, we mean it. BGR’s history with handling military operations dates prior to the airport’s inception when Dow Air Force Base was decommissioned and transformed to become Bangor International Airport in 1968.
