Visitor’s Guide for Customers with Disabilities at Bangor International Airport
Bangor International Airport is fully committed to providing universal access to all public facilities and services for all of its customers. To assist travelers with disabilities, information is provided here on accessible services.
The Domestic terminal has two levels – upper level for departures and arrivals and the lower level for ticketing, check-in, baggage claim and car rental. The International Arrivals Building has three levels – level one is reception, level two has departures and arrivals, level three is administrative offices. Both terminals have accessible ramps from the curbside to the terminal and elevators. Passengers can be met curbside, at baggage claim, or at the security checkpoint.
Only ticketed passengers with boarding passes are allowed beyond the security checkpoints. If a passenger with a disability requires assistance to/from the gate or medical equipment such as oxygen at the gate, a pass provided by the airline must be shown at the security checkpoint.
In case of emergency, audio visual fire alarms and an automated external defibrillator is available on the second floor of the Domestic terminal at the top of the escalator.
Elevators
The elevators are located in both terminals and are equipped with raised Braille buttons, emergency call buttons and are accessible to wheelchair-bound patrons.
Ground Transportation
Airport shuttle buses used for transportation to the Shuttle Lot when it is open (operates seasonally) are equipped with wheelchair lifts.
Taxis: The airport has an open taxi system served by numerous taxi operators. Patrons who need taxis with wheelchair lifts are encouraged to contact a taxi operator directly in advance of going to the curb. This will save time versus waiting at the curb for an accessible vehicle to be called by the dispatcher. Click here for a list of taxi operators.
Luggage Carts Carts are located on the first floor of the Domestic terminal for a nominal fee (cash or credit card).
Pet Relief Areas
Bangor International Airport has a designated Pet Relief Area for service animals that accompany passengers. The Area is located at the far end of the terminal across from the Rental Car lot. Service animals are allowed throughout the terminals.
Public Parking
Bangor International Airport’s parking facilities are accessible for persons with special needs. Specially designated parking spaces are available for the disabled in vehicles displaying a
government-issued plate or placard for use by the disabled.
Public Restrooms
Accessible restrooms and family restrooms are located in both terminals. Many toilet stalls have infrared flush devices. Sinks in each restroom are placed at an accessible height, and infrared devices are used to activate the water at most locations. Baby changing stations have been placed at an accessible height in both men’s and women’s restrooms at most locations. A unisex companion care restroom is provided adjacent to the public restrooms on the second level of the Domestic Terminal adjacent to Gate 4.
Public Seating
Public seating is available throughout the terminals in the holdrooms, in the concourses, and in the baggage claim area.
Public Telephones
A TDD unit is located on the first floor of the Domestic Terminal in Baggage Claim. In addition, each group of pay phones has a clear path to a wheelchair accessible unit. All pay telephones are equipped with volume control.
Security Screening
All security checkpoints are accessible. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA), which conducts passenger screening at the checkpoints, has a program to assist travelers with disabilities and medical conditions.
