Runway 33-15 Pavement Repairs: Temporary Runway Closure for Essential Maintenance
Bangor International Airport (BGR) will temporarily close its runway to from 8 a.m. on Monday, September 21, through 3 p.m. on Thursday, September 24, to complete essential pavement repairs.
During routine inspections, airport staff identified an area of the runway requiring permanent repairs related to Alkali-Silica Reaction (ASR), a naturally occurring condition that can affect concrete pavement over time. Temporary repairs have been completed in accordance with recommendations from the airport’s engineering consultants to maintain safe operations.
Following continued evaluations, both the airport’s engineering team and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) have recommended completing permanent repairs while favorable weather conditions are available. Addressing the issue now will preserve the long-term integrity of the runway, reduce the need for future temporary repairs, and help ensure the continued safe and efficient operation of the airport.
During the closure, helicopter operations will continue as normal. Passengers with upcoming travel plans during this period are encouraged to contact their airline directly for the latest flight information and any schedule changes.
